Protecting Your Business from a Data Breach

In 2017 there were 5,200 breaches, exposing 7.8 billion records (Risk Based Security). The statistics for a data breach are not in your favor. Join us for a program on how best to position your business to protect it. The presentation will cover:

  • The Legal Risks of Data Breaches – the process for responding to a data breach, developing a response plan, and training employees before a breach.
  • Defending Against Data Breaches – conducting risk assessments, shoring up systems and processes, and training employees to minimize the risk.
  • Insuring for Data Breaches – understanding the key components of cyber-insurance to become a better consumer of the emerging products and provide better protection for your business.

Speakers:

J.P Harris, Shareholder Sheehan Phinney –  J.P will present the legal risks and repercussions of Data Breaches.  J.P. is chair of the firm’s Data Breach Practice Group. He will examine recent data breaches, which have affected companies of all shapes and sizes, so that lessons can be learned from those events. He will outline the steps required to notify affected individuals, regulators, and law enforcement with emphasis on the differing legal requirements across the country. Finally, he will review the steps for implementing a response plan so companies can respond quickly and efficiently in the event of a breach and minimize liability for claims.

He specializes in consulting on and negotiating coverage for Directors and Officers Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fidelity, Professional Liability and Cyber Liability. Tom has a broad back-ground with expertise in various industry segments for both private and publicly traded companies of all sizes. He is a frequent speaker and author of articles on these topics.
