Mark began his career practicing as a Trusts and Estates attorney at law firms in South Carolina and Washington, D.C., where he developed deep experience counseling private clients on estate planning and fiduciary issues. He later held senior legal and leadership positions with independent trust companies serving high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families. In these roles, he advised trustees, fiduciaries, and family offices on complex estate and tax planning, fiduciary governance, trust acceptance and termination, and regulatory compliance. He also directed risk management programs, developed fiduciary policies, and guided clients through sophisticated wealth transfer and succession planning strategies.
Drawing on this unique combination of private client and fiduciary leadership experience, Mark brings both technical knowledge and practical insight to his practice. His core strengths include estate planning and tax minimization, fiduciary governance, probate and estate settlement, wealth preservation and asset protection, charitable planning, and regulatory compliance. He is particularly adept at navigating complex fiduciary structures, developing governance frameworks, mitigating risk, and delivering results-oriented solutions that align legal requirements with client priorities.
Before beginning his legal career, he served in the United States Coast Guard and later worked for U.S. Senator James M. Jeffords of Vermont.
Mark is a contributing author and editor of Drafting Wills and Trusts, a leading estate planning treatise published by Thomson Reuters. His contributions to this widely used professional resource highlight both his technical expertise and his ability to translate complex estate planning concepts into practical strategies for clients and colleagues alike.
