Nieves Elected Fellow for the American Bar Foundation

(Manchester, NH, November 16, 2021) – Sheehan Phinney shareholder Peter A. Nieves has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF). Membership is limited to just one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by their peers and selected by the ABF Board.

Nieves serves as Chair to the Patent Law and Intellectual Property and Technology Groups. He is an experienced patent attorney whose unique practice focuses on many aspects of intellectual property, including patent litigation and prosecution, as well as trademark prosecution. Nieves’ practice also includes management of global intellectual property portfolios, patent licensing, counseling on intellectual property strategies, intellectual property legal opinion work, and intellectual property due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions.

Nieves has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America®, Chambers USA, New England Super Lawyers and Managing Intellectual Property Magazine, all for his work in Patent Law and IP overall. He was recently named the 2021 Manchester Lawyer of the Year, Patent Law, by Best Lawyers in America®. Nieves is admitted in New Hampshire and Georgia, and has handled patent litigation matters in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Texas, California, and Florida. He has also been recognized by the US Small Business Administration as the New England and New Hampshire minority small business champion of the year, and he has been an adjunct professor of patent law at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, where he formed the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Scholarship for the benefit of underrepresented minorities. He received his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law and his B.S.E.E. from State University of New York at Buffalo.
