
Janet has been representing privately owned and family controlled businesses for over 35 years. She helps them with formation and governance issues, practical business matters, expansion geographically and financially, transition planning, succession and disposition of the business or its assets. Her clients and areas of knowledge include real estate, construction, architecture and planning, life sciences, biotechnology, technology, manufacturing and services. Before joining the firm in 2008, she founded and managed the law firm Cohen & Fierman, LLP. Her experience in starting, operating, transitioning and closing her own business is invaluable to her clients.
Many of Janet’s clients are international companies doing business in the United State and many of her U.S. clients do business all over the world. She understands and enjoys the bicultural practice of law in the world of relationships, contracts, business deals and litigation.
Prior to her legal career, she was an International Trade Economist with the United States Department of Commerce.
