(June 29, 2009, Manchester, NH) - The law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA is pleased to announce that the William S. Green Memorial Fund has made its first grants to the Makin' It Happen Coalition, the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, the International Institute of New Hampshire and the American Council on Education specifically for the Severely Injured Military Veterans Project.
The William S. Green Memorial Fund is a donor advised fund created as a tribute to the late William S. Green, a founder and long-time president of the firm, who passed away in October of 2007. Partnering with the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, this fund was established to provide annual grants to charitable, religious and educational causes in Manchester and throughout the state. In creating the fund, Sheehan Phinney President and Managing Director, Joseph DiBrigida said, "This fund will contribute to the community and state, and to causes like those which were dear to Bill Green during his lifetime. He truly was a philanthropic leader and we are pleased to create a living memorial to him that will continue his good work."
The Makin' It Happen Coalition is the first recipient of a $5,000 grant to support a Youth Leadership Program, a program for students in the five high schools in Manchester, modeled on programs such as Leadership Manchester and Leadership New Hampshire for adults. Bill Green, who served as a Director of Leadership New Hampshire, was a great supporter of leadership programs. The program has been renamed to the William S. Green Manchester Youth Leadership Program.
A $2,500 grant will go to the Manchester Boys and Girls Club to support the upgrade and expansion of both the Kidtrax member management technology at the Union Street Clubhouse and the system's networked hardware and software to the five other Club program sites within Manchester.
Another $2,500 grant will go to the International Institute of NH to offer low cost immigration legal aid to low-income individuals. The International Institute of NH provides assistance and support services to immigrant and refugee families as they resettle and integrate into local communities.
A $5,000 grant will go to the American Council on Education for the Severely Injured Military Veterans Project in honor of James Wright who recently retired as President of Dartmouth College and is a founder of the Veterans Project. This initiative provides direct support to veterans with severe injuries and their families by helping them align their career goals with educational opportunity. William Green was a graduate of Dartmouth College and also served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II.
Sheehan Phinney is proud to work with the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to identify appropriate organizations for these grants which continue to honor Bill Green's life and his legacy of improving the lives of others. Any organization interested in applying for future grants or anyone wishing to make a contribution to the William S. Green Memorial Fund should contact the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation at 37 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301, 603.225.6641. |
