(January 2, 2008. Manchester, NH.) - The law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green is pleased to announce that attorneys John-Mark Turner, Peter Nieves, Walter Foster, John Perten and Alex Pyle have been elected Shareholders of the firm effective January, 2008.
Turner is a member of the Litigation Department and works in the firm's Manchester office. He has worked on a variety of matters in both state and federal courts with a focus on commercial litigation. His practice also includes insurance and ERISA litigation, intellectual property and tax litigation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Farnum Center in Manchester, NH. Turner received his B.S. from the University of South Carolina and his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley.
Nieves is the head of the firm's Patents Group and also works from the Manchester office. His practice focuses on many aspects of intellectual property, including domestic and foreign preparation and prosecution of both patents and trademarks, and disputes concerning patents, trademarks, and copyrights. He regularly counsels clients and renders opinions concerning the patentability of ideas, infringement/non-infringement of patents, the validity/invalidity of patents and the design of products and processes to avoid potential infringement assertions. His prosecution experience also includes a wide range of electrical and electromechanical technologies, mechanical technologies and business methods. Nieves is a committee member of the MIT Enterprise Forum and a Board Member of Natural Entrepreneur of New Hampshire. He is an Adjunct Professor at Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, NH and assists in teaching courses at the Tuck and Thayer Schools at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He received his B.S.E.E. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center.
Foster is a member of the Litigation Department and works from the firm's Boston office. He maintains an extensive practice in employment law, business litigation, municipal law, and pension law, where he provides counsel to both private and public sector. Walter has 19 years of trial and appellate experience and previously worked as an assistant attorney general (AAG) in Massachusetts, and currently serves as Special Assistant Attorney General. He is a member of the local Community Preservation Committee and a former selectman for the Town of Acton. He was named one of Boston Magazine's Massachusetts Super Lawyers in 2006. Foster received his B.A., cum laude, from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.
Perten is also a member of the Litigation and Business Departments and works from the firm's Boston office. He has a complex business litigation and transactional practice and provides representation to clients in a wide variety of settings including construction projects, business transactions, real estate ventures and environmental remediation projects. He is a member of the Associated Builders & Contractors, the Construction Specifications Institute and the Builders Association of Greater Boston. Perten is an adjunct faculty member at Babson College in Wellesley, MA, teaching business law classes in both the undergraduate and graduate M.B.A. programs. He is also a frequent author and lecturer on issues relating to the construction industry. He received his B.A. from Cornell University and his J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University School of Law.
Pyle is a member of the firm's Corporate Department and works from the Boston office. He is a business lawyer with more than 15 years of experience handling a wide range of transactions. His practice includes representation of companies at all stages of development, as well as investors, executives and other individuals. Pyle advises software, communications, consulting, life science and other technology-based businesses, both public and private, as well as more traditional business enterprises. He is actively involved in entrepreneurial organizations and serves on the board of The ICA Group, Inc., a non-profit provider of employee ownership, business development and job retention services. He has also served as a judge for Harvard Business School's Business Plan Competition. Pyle received his B.A. from Wesleyan University, an M.F.A. from the University of Southern California and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
