Sheehan Phinney Attorneys Aid Merger Of Two Nonprofit Land Trusts |
(November 6, 2006. Manchester, NH.) - Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green attorneys Thomas S. Burack and Bradford E. Cook played a pivotal role in helping two land trusts merge into one. Rockingham Land Trust and Seacoast Land Trust officially merged into the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire, which serves 39 communities of greater Rockingham County.
The organizations, which work to conserve land and natural resources of southeastern New Hampshire, retained Sheehan Phinney to help them identify the various legal issues that arise in a nonprofit merger, and to then structure and implement the merger process. Burack and Cook prepared documents for filing with various state and federal agencies, and guided necessary board actions to accomplish the combination.
Cook is the head of the firm's Estate Planning and Probate and Government Relations Practice Groups. He represents many colleges and private secondary schools, religious organizations throughout New England, and hospital, nursing home and other charitable clients. Brad also represents both for-profit and not-for-profit clients before the New Hampshire legislature on a regular basis, and practices general corporate law.
On Nov. 1, Burack became the commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. In his 17 years at the firm, he handled operational, organizational and tax issues for numerous non-profit corporations. He also represented parties in real estate transactions, including contaminated site cleanups (so-called "Brownfields") as well as in land protection and conservation easement projects, as part of his focus on environmental law.
Sheehan Phinney is a regional business law firm with offices in Manchester, Concord and Lebanon, NH, and Boston, MA. The firm provides a broad range of sophisticated legal services to businesses and institutions in traditional and emerging areas of the law. Its diverse client base includes local and regional for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, as well as national and international businesses with interests in the Northeastern United States. |
