(June 3, 2004. Manchester, NH.) - Attorney Bruce A. Harwood, a director in the regional law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green, PA, has been named co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute's (ABI) Northeast Bankruptcy Conference. The ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. Its membership is comprised of over 10,000 attorneys, bankers, judges, lenders, accountants and related bankruptcy professionals. The conference, which takes place this July in Bretton Woods, NH, brings together professionals from throughout the United States for three days of educational programs and discussions.
Mr. Harwood practices in the areas of workouts, insolvencies, creditor-debtor relations, bankruptcy, commercial law and litigation. He represents secured and unsecured creditors, unsecured creditors' committees and commercial debtors in all forms of insolvency proceedings. He also represents buyers and sellers of troubled companies' assets (including technology, licensing and software rights) inside and outside of bankruptcy cases, and regulatory agencies in the rehabilitation and liquidation of insurers.
He is admitted to practice in New Hampshire and Illinois and before the United States Court of Appeals in the First and Seventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the New Hampshire and American Bar Associations and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Harwood has written and lectured extensively on topics concerning bankruptcies, insolvencies, workouts and banking law. He served for five years as a member of the New Hampshire Board of Bar Examiners, and was the New Hampshire Coordinator for the American Bar Association's project on the adoption of Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code in New Hampshire. He has consistently been named in the Bankruptcy Law Section of The Best Lawyers in America.
He also serves on the board of the New Hampshire Junior Cycling Academy, a non-profit affiliate of the U.S. Cycling Federation, which promotes and develops road and mountain bike racing for junior cyclists.
He received his B.A. from Northwestern University and his J.D. from Washington University.
