Boston, MA.) - Attorney Mark Ventola, a director in the regional law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA, successfully represented a group of candidates seeking to overturned the affirmative action hiring plan of the Boston Fire Department. The candidates had all scored near perfect results on eligibility examinations, but had not been hired as a result of a quota system that called for hiring one minority for every white firefighter.
"These guys have waited a long time and they are all feeling very excited about actually getting on the job," said Attorney Mark Ventola. The new recruits were the first all white, all male class to graduate in decades. They were sworn in on March 18, 2005.
Mr. Ventola is a member of the firm's Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Group and its business consulting and litigation groups. He represents public and private employers in collective bargaining with labor unions and serves as labor counsel to a city within the Greater Boston area. Mr. Ventola also counsels clients on issues related to: hiring, trade secrets, termination and separation, wage and hour, family medical leave, and employment discrimination.
