| (February 25, 2010, Manchester, NH) - Sheehan Phinney shareholder, Kimon S. Zachos was honored by the New Hampshire Bar Foundation at its 2010 Midyear Meeting with the Distinguished Service to the Public Award. Zachos shares the honor, given for "career-long dedication to public service and more than 50 years of inspiration to the legal profession", with longtime friends Jack B. Middleton and David L. Nixon.
Although all three have individually been recognized before by the NH Bar, current Bar Association President James L. Tenn Jr. decided to present them with a collective award to highlight the "force for public good that their enduring and close friendship represents. Their service is exemplary because of its duration of more than five decades, and the profound influence that service has had on those who have known them," said Tenn. "Such service is extraordinary and these individuals deserve to be honored." He noted that the three Manchester attorneys, all leaders in their law firms and in many community organizations, get together almost every month for breakfast and, through the years, have collaborated on many professionalism and community leadership initiatives.
As Sheehan Phinney's senior shareholder, Zachos' practice encompasses corporate, banking and estate planning law. In addition to a legal career which spans nearly fifty years, Kimon also has dedicated his personal time to the State of New Hampshire and to countless business, civic and cultural organizations.
Early in his career (1965-1966), Kimon served as a White House Fellow as a special assistant to U.S. Attorney General Katzenbach. He also served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1969 through 1974, where he was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker.
Well known for his leadership and philanthropy, Zachos as served as a Director and Trustee of many businesses and non profit organization, too numerous to note. Among a long list of his current involvement, he serves as a Trustee of the Currier Museum of Art, Southern New Hampshire University, the Endowment Funds of Havenwood Heritage Heights Retirement Community and the Trust Funds of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He also currently serves as a member of the Legislative Ethics Committee, a member of the Greater Manchester Hellenic Scholarship Committee, and as a Director for the New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies.
Zachos has also been the recipient of a long list of awards throughout his career, including the Manchester Bar Association's Lawyer of the Year, Manchester Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Daniel Webster Council B.S.A. Distinguished Citizen Award, Business NH Magazine's Business Leader of the Year, NH Business Committee for the Art's Leadership Award, the NH BIA's Lifetime Achievement Award and the Pastoral Counseling Services' Good Samaritan Award for Public Service.
