Zachos Pro Bono Hero Award has been presented to two of the firm's attorneys, Susan A. Manchester and Courtney H.G. Herz. Firm President and Managing Director, Joseph A. DiBrigida stated, "The firm has always been committed to pro bono legal service and is pleased to recognize, not just one, but two of our outstanding lawyers for their commitment of significant time and effort to pro bono causes."
The Kimon S. Zachos Pro Bono Hero Award is given to an attorney who exceeds the 30-hour minimum and makes a special contribution to the firm's pro bono endeavors. The award is based upon the previous 12-month's efforts. The Management Committee, with input from the Pro Bono Coordinator, selects one attorney each year to receive the award.
The award was named to honor Sheehan Phinney senior shareholder, Kimon S. Zachos, who is a long-time supporter and an Honorary Fellow of the NH Bar Foundation. The NH Bar Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that all people in New Hampshire, especially those with limited means, are able to obtain meaningful access to the justice system.
Susan Manchester works primarily in the fields of commercial real estate and lending and Chairs the firm's Real Estate and Finance Practice Group and Co-Chair's the Zoning, Planning and Land Use Group. She is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (the first woman in the State of NH to be elected to the nationwide organization). Susan commits a significant amount of time to local organizations, currently serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the NH Association for the Blind and a member of the Board of the Manchester Rotary Club. She has been recognized as one of "America's Leading Business Lawyers" by Chambers USA since 2004 and has been named a Best Lawyer in America and a New England Super Lawyer, both in the area of real estate. In 2008 Susan was also presented the YWCA's Susan B. Anthony Award, which recognizes the contributions of outstanding women who live or work in New Hampshire.
Courtney Herz practices primarily in the areas of business litigation and employment law where she assists clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters, employment discrimination and non-competition agreement violations. She also handles post-divorce family law litigation. Courtney is a member of the Board of Trustees for the New Hampshire Children's Trust and currently serves as the Board's Secretary. She is also a member of the Board for the Acting Loft Academy of Performing Arts. In 2010 Courtney was selected as a Rising Star by New England Super Lawyers in the area of Business Litigation.
