Harwood Elected to American College of Bankruptcy

(March 9, 2010, Manchester, NH) - Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA shareholder Bruce A. Harwood has been named a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. He will be inducted in a ceremony held on March 12, 2010, at the Great Hall of the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

Harwood, recognized for his professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of bankruptcy and insolvency law, joins the 21st Class (2010) of the College Fellows with 34 other nominees from throughout the United States. He is one of only three Fellows from the State of New Hampshire, including the Honorable Mark W. Vaughn, Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge and Daniel W. Sklar, Nixon Peabody LLP. Nominees are extended an invitation to join the College based on a record of achievement reflecting the highest standards of professionalism. The American College of Bankruptcy is an honorary professional and educational association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals. College Fellows include commercial and consumer bankruptcy attorneys, insolvency accountants, turnaround and workout specialists, law professors, judges, government officials and others involved in the bankruptcy and insolvency community.

Since 1981, Bruce has practiced almost exclusively in the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency. He restructures debt and reorganizes businesses inside and outside of formal bankruptcy proceedings. In bankruptcy cases, he represents business debtors (both individuals and entities); purchasers of assets in transactions with debtors; secured and unsecured creditors; official creditors' committees; and trustees in bankruptcy (as both general and special counsel). He has provided counsel to the State of New Hampshire in insolvency cases affecting the State's regulatory interests. He also mediates disputes arising in connection with debtor-creditor relations.

Bruce is recognized as one of the top bankruptcy attorneys in the state and nationally. He is honored in Chambers USA guide with a "Band 1" ranking, and has been named as one of the Best Lawyers in America for over ten years and as a New England Super Lawyer since 2007.

Bruce is a member and on the Board of Directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and served for four years as the Co-Chair of the ABI's Northeast Bankruptcy Conference. He is also a member of the New Hampshire and American Bar Associations, the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, and the Local Rules Advisory Board for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire. He was the New Hampshire coordinator for the ABA's project on the adoption of Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code.
