(November 23, 2009, Manchester, NH) - Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA presented the first-ever, Kimon S. Zachos Pro Bono Hero Award to attorney Karyl Roberts Martin. "The firm has always been committed to pro bono legal service and is pleased to recognize one of our outstanding young lawyers for her commitment of significant time and effort to pro bono causes," noted firm President and Managing Director Joseph DiBrigida.
The Kimon S. Zachos Pro Bono Hero Award is given to an attorney who exceeds the 30-hour minimum and makes a special contribution to the firm's pro bono endeavors. The award is decided upon the previous 12-month's efforts. The Management Committee, with input from the Pro Bono Coordinator, selects one attorney each year to receive the award.
The award was named to honor Sheehan Phinney senior Shareholder, Kimon S. Zachos, who is a long-time supporter and an Honorary Fellow of the NH Bar Foundation. The NH Bar Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that all people in New Hampshire, especially those with limited means, are able to obtain meaningful access to the justice system.
Karyl works primarily in the fields of commercial and employment litigation, in matters concerning contract disputes and claims of employment discrimination, as well as in zoning, planning and land use. In 2009, New England Super Lawyers selected Karyl as a Rising Star in the area of Business Litigation. She is the Membership Secretary of the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association and serves on the executive committee of the Daniel Webster-Batchelder American Inns of Court.
