(May 17, 2006. Manchester, NH.) - W. Michael Dunn, a shareholder at Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green, was reappointed by Gov. John Lynch to the Commission to Study Uniform State Laws, commonly known as the "Uniform Law Commission." Dunn, whose next term starts at the beginning of 2007, has been a member of the board since 1980. This will be his 10th three-year term.
New Hampshire's Uniform Law Commission is part of a nonprofit national association that consists of commissioners appointed by each state. The association has overseen between 300 and 500 state laws that they believed should be standard across states. Each state has its own commissioners and they work cooperatively to assure consistency of certain laws. The most famous by-product is the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), which attempts to harmonize the law of sales and other commercial transactions among states. Recent efforts include the prevention of parental kidnapping, laws regulating athletes and agents, and the revamping of Articles 1 and 7 of the UCC.
Since 1973, Dunn has had an active litigation practice emphasizing recovery for personal injury damages caused by the negligent acts of corporations, physicians and motorists. He also defends insurance companies, professionals, businesses and private individuals in civil and criminal matters brought by individuals, state and federal governments, and their regulatory agencies. Along with his work with the Uniform Law Commission, Dun is also the past president of the Concord School Board.
